LOAD MANAGEMENT

HOAS, APTS & MULTI CAR CHARGING

Easily add more charging stations.

The demand for charging stations is gradually increasing and you’ll want your investment to grow along with that demand. Load balancing is designed to make your investment future-proof. One of our favorite load balancing solutions is the RVE Demand Charge Controller (DCC). We’ve installed dozens of RVE DCCs in HOA’s, Apartment Buildings, and even Single Family Homes (as an alternative to an expensive service upgrade). This recent electrotrek review of the RVE DCC will provide some enlightenment on this technology.

What is Load Management?

Electric cars demand a lot of power yet most of  the  power in your home or building is reserved for appliances and other infrastructure. When multiple cars are charging simultaneously the power demand rises to a critical level with the possibility of causing a power cut .  In this situation one would need to upgrade the service to the home or building – or,  implement a load management solution.

Load Management, also known as Dynamic Load Balancing, allows one to safely charge multiple vehicles at the same time in an environment that would not normally support multiple vehicles.

There are several different ways to accomplish load balancing :  We can work with your specific residential or commercial installation to pick the right one for you.

Integrated Load Balancing

A double charging station with integrated load balancing is able to distribute the total charging power equally between two electric cars. If only one electric car is plugged in, it charges with the full charging capacity (e.g. 22 kW).  If two electric cars are plugged in, the charging power is halved accordingly (e.g. 11 kW per electric car).

Static Load Balancing

With static load balancing, a reserved charging power that is fixed for all charging stations is distributed equally among several stations as soon as multiple electric cars are connected, and you can choose how many charging stations with the relevant output are integrated into the system.

Dynamic Load Balancing

The total charging power available to the charging stations is dynamically adjusted to the current power consumption throughout the building, and distributed equally between the charging stations. As soon as you reach peak loads, the charging power is automatically reduced, and you choose how many charging stations with the relevant output are integrated into the system.
